When Phoenix Aston arrived into the Phoenix fold in 2018, he captured everyone’s heart with his loving personality and his wonderful cuddles. He was a big pied boy who wanted nothing more than to give his love.
Aston unfortunately arrived with a complex behaviour problem; shadow and light chasing. He was a very clever boy and would move doors to make a reflection on the floor which he could then try and chase. Despite this, this behaviour issue caused him an extreme amount of stress as he could never settle due to being on a constant look out for reflections/shadows. He was wired and needed calming and training.
Aston was moved into several foster homes but all struggled to get the behaviour under control enough to allow him to calm down. Aston finally found his forever home with Rachel who, at the time, was one of the Phoenix team. He moved into a busy house with 4 children and 2 other dogs. Distraction was the key to helping him with his stressful behaviour and a busy household was the perfect place to do this. Aston was, of course, soon adopted and became Rachel’s sidekick, The shadow/light chasing was 90% under control; the family soon learned the times of day he was bad and spent those times distracting him until he eventually calmed more and more.
Unfortunately Aston developed spinal issues in 2022 and lost control of his back legs and, even with strict rest and meds, the pain was just too much. The final act of love from Rachel and her family was to make sure he was no longer in pain and on the 13/11/2022 that act of love was done. Aston is missed daily and is constantly in his family's thoughts. Rachel’s Teddy Bear will never, ever, be forgotten!
Thank you Phoenix for giving us the time with this gorgeous boy who wiggled his bottom through my front door and never left, he was our world and we will miss him forever. xx
